Malcolm McLaren - D'ya Like Scratchin' (1983)

D'ya Like Scratchin'was the follow up to Malcolm McLaren's debut solo LP Duck Rock. Duck Rock was one of the most influential LP for hip hop. With some hardcore hip hop beats this White man from the U.K. was getting play in all the Black clubs at the time. Adding snippets from the legendary underground radio duo, The World Famous Supreme Team, and addingtheir singing and rapping this LP had all the elements of a classic. D'ya Like Scratchin' was like a remix project with them stepping the beats up even more.

Cymande - Cymande (1972)

Cymande was a group that came to be out of London, England in 1971. The band consisted of members from Guyana and Jamaica. This debut self-titled LP contained many quality songs but is best known for the club smash Bra. It has been sampled who knows how many times and still rocks crowds when it is dropped on the dancefloor. It also contains The Message (their first single) and the downtempo Dove. It's too bad this funk band was only together about 3 years.

Village People - Cruisin' (1978)

The Village People had huge success with their disco LP Cruisin' as it contained the #2 hit from 1979, Y.M.C.A. It was also #1 in the U.K. It was their biggest hit. Some may think they are talking about the popular gym but those in the know, know they mean the Young Men's Christian Association. The Village People were from the gay culture and wanted to celebrate the cruising that went on there.

30 years later the song is still very popular, especially at sporting events where a specific YMCA dance is done by the crowds. VH1 listed it on the 100 Greatest Dance Songs of the 20th Century at # 7.

You can find Y.M.C.A. on the Village People's Gretest Hits CD.
